It is prohibited to hold bird exhibitions and markets on the territory of the Razgrad region. The restriction is part of the preventive measures against bird flu ordered by the Regional Epizootic Commission, the regional administration announced. The meeting was convened in connection with the outbreaks of avian flu in the country and an order of the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency with an instruction to hold regional epizootic commissions, to which specific measures should be taken to carry out enhanced information campaigns among the population.
Among the preventive measures against the spread of the disease, adopted at the meeting, is a ban on the outdoor breeding of all types and categories of birds until the cancellation of the order. In the event of any illness or death of birds, immediately notify the attending veterinarian or the mayor of the settlement. Hunters, gamekeepers, biologists, ecologists, etc. should notify the veterinary medical specialists of any change in the behavior of the birds or if they notice mortality in them. It is also ordered to hold meetings of the Municipal Epizootic Committees and to outline specific measures to prevent the disease from affecting poultry farming, which is highly developed in the region.
As of today, there are no outbreaks of avian influenza on the territory of the Razgrad region, Denitsa Dilova, press officer of the regional administration, told BTA.
