Etchings of Varna students based on drawings by Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora

How do the drawings of Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora look through the eyes of students from the “Fine Arts” specialty at the “Dobri Hristov” National School of Arts in the city of Varna? This is what the artist Georgi Kenarov and his students – Victoria Stoyanova, Klementina Savova and Maria Buzeva – tell us.

In the City Art Gallery “Boris Georgiev” in our maritime capital, students from IX, X and XI grades presented a joint exhibition “The Master through our eyes”. It includes etchings based on works by Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora. The samples are pencil ink drawings from the time of the Balkan War of 1912 and 1913, which were recently discovered. The great Bulgarian artist joins it as a volunteer and military artist.

“The way of working with strokes in one direction, solving plastic problems in this way, is something new for us and for them, and our goal as teachers is to confront them with different problems in plastic and show them different solutions. They were perfect for our task,” explains the choice of the topic, the graphics teacher at NUI “Dobri Hristov” Georgi Kenarov.

For several years, the National School of Arts and the City Art Gallery in Varna have been working on a joint educational program. As a result, the series of exhibitions with the title “Through my eyes…” clarifies Georgi Kenarov. So far, students have had the opportunity to create etchings inspired by the paintings of the world’s great masters such as Rembrandt and Francisco Goya.

The exhibition “Master through our eyes” is part of the Spring Art Salon of Varna Municipality.
