They won’t give more money to parents with university degrees – it’s discrimination

The municipality of Montana will give BGN 100 more to families with a newborn. At today’s meeting, the local governors decided from May 1, 2024 to provide BGN 400 for the first child and BGN 600 for the second. Until now, the amounts were BGN 300 and BGN 500, respectively.

After the amendment of the municipal ordinance, families with adopted children will be able to benefit from the assistance. Young people from the municipality who until recently were students, returned to Montana and have a child will also have the right to support. Until now, they were not entitled to receive money for a newborn child, because in the last three years their address registration was in other cities, where the universities where they studied are located. However, they will now be able to present notes from higher education institutions that they were full-time students and receive funds for a newborn child.

The number of women giving birth at home is increasing

The municipal councilor and chairman of the budget committee in the Montana municipal council, Stanimir Stoev, said that the funds allocated in the municipality’s budget for this year will be enough to support families with newborn children, if their number is close to that of last year.

Councilors have rejected a proposal to give more money to families where the parents are university graduates, as it would be educational discrimination.
