After conversations with the house managers and meetings with local residents held in February, three blocks in the municipal center and one in Dolna Oryahovitsa were chosen to partner the local authority in the venture.
Eco corners with containers for different types of waste have already been built next to these residential buildings. They are available only to residents of the respective block, and access is made with chips. In order for the reporting of household waste to be realistic, the commercial establishments located in some buildings do not have access to these containers.
People who help the Municipality to carry out the necessary calculations are also provided with individual boxes for separate collection at home, so that they are maximally facilitated.
Full pre-separation in the households themselves will reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste and thus reduce the fees that Gorna Oryahovitsa pays to the regional landfill.
Tracking the real quantities of non-recyclable garbage will allow to prepare the most correct mechanism for calculating fees for household users, on the “polluter pays” principle. At the moment, both single people and multi-member households pay the same, based on the area of the occupied property.
The mayor Nikolay Rashkov visited one of the locations, together with the chief architect Stefan Georgiev, with the chairman of the Municipal Council Ognyan Stoyanov and with the head of the “TSU and municipal property” department, Eng. Lyudmila Boyadzhieva. They talked to the residents of “P. R. Slaveikov”, once again thanking the citizens for the assistance they will provide to the local government.
The switch to separate collection should be introduced in all municipalities from the beginning of next year. This is in connection with the entry into force on January 1, 2025 of the provisions of the ZMDT, regarding the determination of the household waste fee, according to its quantity.
