Large walnut-sized hail and torrential rain lashed central and southern parts of the country this afternoon. It hindered the movement of cars on the “Trakia” highway in the region of Stara Zagora and Plovdiv. And the torrential rain in Kazanlak turned the streets of the city into rivers.

A yellow code for intense rainfall and thunderstorms was announced for 12 regions of Western Bulgaria. The streets of Kaloyanovets turned white from the ice chunks.

Heavy hail hit the Novozagorsk village of Banya. The pieces are the size of eggs. Extremely heavy damage was done. The harvest of wheat, potatoes and roses was completely destroyed.

The farmer Gencho Kolev said that the losses from the 30-minute hail were great. “Everything turned into ice. 10-15 centimeters of coverage on fields and permanent crops. Absolutely everything was destroyed,” he revealed.

Marian Kolev believes that the anti-hail missiles were activated, but they did not help and now their production has been destroyed.

The village of Samuilovo in Stara Zagora was seriously affected by the ice chunks. The main damage is to fruit trees and plantations, but the information is still being summarized, and the situation remains dynamic, announced the mayor of Chirpan Ivaylo Kracholov.

In 4 hours, from 1:19 p.m., more than 600 rockets were fired from the structures of the Executive Agency “Fighting Hail”, in connection with the developed powerful cumulonimbus clouds, accompanied by hail, in the regions of Plovdiv, Haskovo, Stara Zagora and Sliven. More than 20 hail risk cells were processed by the Regional directorates for hail in Taža, Stara Zagora, Popovitsa, Haskovo and Sliven.
