When the library doors are closed and the books are left alone, maybe a magic happens that no one even suspects. Or not, then the stories rest and await the new day when new readers will come and be eager to lead them into the deepest recesses of their imaginations. Maybe the librarians know the secrets of the books and will never share them. However, April 23 is a special day and the team of the “Hristo Botev” Regional Library – Vratsa leaves the doors open for all those curious readers who secretly believe in the magical power of books.
Over 150 visitors took part in the eighth edition of Night in the Library 2024, dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day – April 23. The colorful highlights, the work of the theater artists from the TEMP group, brought color and light to the temple of the book.
Immediately after that, the children of Vratsa got involved in the most creative construction construction challenge, which was arranged in the Children’s Department, courtesy of the Public Endowment Fund for Vratsa. In the library, building blocks, boards, large Lego blocks and lava of colors awaited them.
The real seekers headed to the library’s Teen Hall, where they tested their logical skills in the the game “young detective”, inspired by the great Sherlock Holmes. He is one of the most captivating and famous characters in world literature, who has become a byword for insight and a sharp mind, ready to unravel even the most complex criminal cases, before which even the best police officers are powerless. The participants were divided into teams and took on the role of Holmes and his faithful assistant Dr. John Watson. There were also prizes for the fastest minds.
Parallel to the children’s workshops, in the Reading Room, a special guest of the day was the journalist Mira Dobreva. She presented her book “Fireflies behind bars” (published by “Knigomania”), which managed to touch each of those present in a special way. The novel examines the destinies of two women marked by mind- and body-consuming alcohol addiction. This is a book about alienation and magnanimity. About illness as a way of spiritual growth. On death and immortality. For enlightenment. When asked how she managed to save herself after doing all the research on the subject, Mira Dobreva said that her soul is half burnt to ashes and there is no way a person can come out whole and indifferent from what he saw.
The eighth edition of the Night ended in the cinema with the film “The Pulse of the Dance”. The screening was a gift to all book lovers and was held courtesy of Metropol Cinema.
