An elderly woman was injured after a piece of paper ignited by a night lamp caused a fire in her home

An 88-year-old woman has burns after a fire broke out in her home in Veliko Tarnovo. This was announced by the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city.

The incident was reported at midnight. According to initial information, the fire started from paper falling on a night lamp.

The flames almost completely destroyed the first floor of the house in the center of Veliko Tarnovo.

The victim was taken to the Veliko Tarnovo hospital with burns on her legs.

The woman was rescued, and the accident was liquidated by teams of the Regional Office “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” – Veliko Tarnovo. A file has been opened on the case.

This is the second case of a person injured in a fire in the Veliko Tarnovo region since the beginning of the year, and during this period there was also one person who died in a fire, the police press center specified, quoted by BTA.

By the end of March, firefighters from Veliko Tarnovo responded to 477 reports, of which 384 were for fires with material and non-material damage.

Of these, 68 fires occurred in homes. The reasons are of a different nature, but most are related to careless handling of electrical and heating appliances.
