DTA “Pargavelche” with artistic director Roza Chanova presented Shumen and Bulgaria at the largest international Children’s Day festival in the city of Mersin, Turkey /Uluslararası Mersin Çocuk Festivali/.

In the days from April 20 to 23, the spectacular event brought together dance groups from 39 countries around the world, including Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Iran, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, etc.

The participation of the representatives of Bulgaria is at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Turkey and the Mayor of the city of Mersin, Vahap Secher.

In a colorful parade, hundreds of children from all over the world showed the beauty of their folklore. Dressed in their national costumes, they passed through the streets of Mersin in a motorcade from Forum AVM to Özgecan Aslan Peace Square. Locals watched them from their homes and workplaces with interest.

They stopped them, congratulated them and took pictures with them as a souvenir. On a large stage with video walls on the town’s beach, the children sang and danced to an audience of thousands. The mayor of Mersin, Vahap Secher, came on stage to greet them.

The carnival in honor of the children continued in the neighboring cities of Tarsus, Silifke, Anamur. During the day-long festivities, children sang, danced, did crafts in children’s workshops, raced bicycles, and had fun.

Despite the busy schedule of the participants, the organizers of the festival gave the children an unforgettable excursion to some of the sights in Turkey. Maja Milkova, who was part of the team of the racquets, shared her impressions of visiting our southern neighbor for shumenonline.bg.

“I was in Turkey for the first time. I really liked the country. We visited some of the sights, visited Cappadocia, the Maiden’s Fortress in Kazkalesi, went on a boat trip. We had performances every day. We performed all our dances. People liked us a lot, took pictures with us, told us we were very beautiful. They smiled at us, waved us out of their homes and out of their cars. Cars stopped in their tracks so we could cross the big boulevards. This is the biggest festival I’ve ever been to,” Maya said excitedly.

The international children’s festival ended with a gala evening, where the participants had the opportunity to get to know each other. It was also attended by representatives of various ministries. At the end of the evening, plaques and gifts were distributed to all participants so that they would never forget Mersin and the festival.

The participation of DTA “Pargavelche” in the prestigious international festival was made possible with the financial support of the government of Turkey and the parents of the children, who co-financed their stay.
