Lazarov Day was celebrated in Uzundzhovo – Haskovo.NET

Today we celebrate Lazarov Day. On this holiday, the custom of lazaration is performed. It involves young unmarried women, called lazarki.

The holiday was celebrated by “Cvyat 1898” in the Haskovo village of Uzundzhovo. The Lazar girls passed through the village and visited homes.

Then they performed the customary lazaration. The girls sang traditional songs, performed folk dances and called for health.

The holiday was also celebrated by the other local community center “Penko Penkov 2013”. The Lazar women first visited the Church of the Holy Mother of God, then also performed the custom in several houses.

Lazarus Day is a Christian holiday dedicated to Lazarus of Bethany and his miraculous resurrection by Jesus Christ. It is celebrated on the Saturday before Palm Sunday and Holy Week.

It is also known by the names Lazarnitsa, Lazar, Lazarova Saturday.

Today, Lazar, Lazarka, Lazarin, Lazarina, Lazo, Laska, Elizar, Lachezara, Lachezar and their derivatives are celebrating their name day. The name “Lazarus” is a symbol of health and longevity.
