More than 70 children visited the port and viewed the terminals to learn about their parents’ work

The open day at BMF Port Burgas is an extremely successful initiative. For the third year in a row, the Concessionaire Company opens its doors to citizens. In 2022, visitors saw the completely renovated and modernized terminal “Burgas East-2”, and in 2023 the focus was the “Burgas West” terminal.

This year BMF Port Burgas invited the children of its workers and employees, offering them an interesting program and inspiring impressions.

The port team had made sure to provide the young visitors with unforgettable experiences by showing them key locations of the port terminals, various machines and equipments used in the day-to-day operation of the port. The organization included a tour of the gate by bus, which started from Burgas West terminal. There, the children were very impressed by the impressive 100-tonne Gottwald cranes used to handle container ships.

The tour continued to the “Burgas Iztok-2” terminal, where the scale of the complex of silos aroused great interest. During the event, a huge grain ship was docked at 31 berths and the children had the unique opportunity to watch live how grain is trucked into the port and loaded onto the ship.

For the finale, on a site specially fenced for the event, where specialized machines were positioned, the children saw equipment in daily operation in the port up close and took pictures as a souvenir.

The excitement among the children was great: “I liked these huge cranes the most,” said an excited Stoyan (9 years old), referring to the 100-ton cranes at the container terminal. Atanas (8 years old) was adamant that he no longer dreams of becoming an astronaut, but wants to work “…hey up there on that green one…”, pointing to one of the new cranes in the gate – a Zennebogen 870e. Impressive sites in the port inspired the little guests to dream and get excited about different professions related to the sea and the port.

“When will I grow up to become the captain of such a big ship and travel all the seas and oceans,” Simeon (9) asked impatiently.

“Such initiatives play a key role for our society, that’s why we are making efforts in this direction for the third year in a row. BMF Port Burgas is among the largest employers in the city and this year we decided to make the event more family-oriented, giving the families of our employees the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a working day here as much as possible. The impressive sites in the harbor not only excited and impressed the children, but also sparked their imaginations. Each child brings his own dreams and excitement. And today, inspired by what they saw, maybe some of the children will build new dreams and ambitions, and this is important because they are the future and their excitement and interests determine our common direction,” said Boris Balev, executive director of BMF Port Burgas AD.

BMF Port Burgas had prepared backpacks for all the children with goodies and souvenirs as a memory of this wonderful day. The holding of the open day is also connected with the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. By organizing the family-oriented event, the port operator also hopes to increase the personal commitment of its employees to the importance of following workplace safety recommendations.

The event was carefully planned, and after pre-registration, groups of 10 children were formed, each with their parent. According to the schedule, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., each of the groups toured the terminals, and the accompanying employees of BMF Port Burgas showed and talked about the unique machines and equipment, as well as the safety and security systems and environmental protection.

The open day was held in strict compliance with the internal rules of the port, and all necessary measures were taken to protect the health and safety of all participants.

The children posed in front of different types of equipment: 1. KTM “VOLVO” L220H; 2. Telescopic lift “MANITIU” 835; 3. Forklift Heli 5t; 4. Forklift Heli 10t; 5. Kalmar 45t
