Hundreds of Varna citizens in all areas of the city and the five villages in the municipality followed the call “Think globally, act locally!”. They joined the cleaning campaign initiated by the Municipality of Varna. All the technical and human resources of the garbage disposal company, the administrations of the municipality, the regions and the town halls were engaged in it.

Cleaning began late last night with washing of the pedestrian area leading to Independence Square, the square itself and the largo to the Sea Garden. Benches and bins were cleaned with detergents and disinfected. Mayor Blagomir Kotsev supervised the cleaning activities in the city center since midnight.

The campaign continued this morning with the washing of the colonnade at the entrance to the park and Anton Novak Square, and will end at night with the cleaning of all the main boulevards and streets. According to the mayor Blagomir Kotsev, in order for the result to be more visible, it is necessary to wash the squares and pedestrian areas more regularly. This also applies to the summer season, when pollution is more serious.

According to data from the garbage disposal company, more than 120 tons of waste were removed to the landfill in the village of Vaglen by early afternoon. This is many times more than the usual daily amount. More than 450 employees of the company, 5 tankers and 5 mopeds were involved in the cleaning. Also included are 10 flatbed trucks for the removal of waste collected in sacks by the citizens and the company’s workers.

The administration of the Municipality of Varna actively participated in the cleaning, and in connection with the upcoming Easter holidays, the emphasis was on the gardens around the churches. The spaces around the Assumption Metropolitan Cathedral and the churches of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker”, “St. Archangel Michael” and “St. Five”. Groups from the municipal directorates cleaned the area from Fisherman’s Beach to Parva Buna, the kindergartens to the Youth Salon, to the Varna Commercial High School “G. S. Rakovski”, next to the City Art Gallery “Boris Georgiev”. The garden at the Monday market, around the municipality building, the Puppet Theater, around the computer center, the zoo, Union Square, playgrounds and lawns were also cleaned.

Over 300 employees of the regional administrations and town halls also followed the call for a cleaner Varna. From the “Odessos” area, they cleaned the Shishkova garden, the lawns along “Mikhail Colony” street and around the architect’s house. The administration of the Mladost district was concentrated in the neighborhood park. Inter-block spaces were also cleaned.

18 apartment owners from the “Vladislav Varnenchik” quarter declared their participation in the campaign. Elderly people from the pensioners’ club also got involved. Borough officials cleaned up lawns in the neighborhood.

From the “Primorski” area, they cleaned children’s and sports grounds in the area of ​​the “Chatalja” market and around the administrative building, the lawns around the “Rest” monument. Many citizens were seen cleaning inter-block spaces in Chaika and Vinica neighborhoods.

The administration of the “Asparuhovo” district cleaned the promenade along the canal.

In the village of Zvezditsa, not only the local administration, but also the pensioners’ club in the village joined in the cleaning around the town hall. There they had also organized the planting of birches and bushes along the main street.

They cleaned around the chapel and the town hall building in the village of Topoli. In the village of Kazashko, they took care of the areas around people’s homes. In the village of Kamenar, the administration cleans the pine grove and inter-block spaces. In the village of Konstantinovo, the yards of the kindergarten and the school were cleaned yesterday, and today – the areas around the cemetery park.

Throughout the day today, social media was abuzz with photos of adults and children proudly posing next to bags of trash they had collected.
