The regional governor, Prof. Maria Neikova, supported the positioning of the first proton accelerator in Burgas with a special letter to the Minister of Health.
Prof. Neikova insists that Burgas is the pilot city in Bulgaria, where oncologically ill children from all over the country can be treated through the modern medical facility, which is a prerequisite for turning Burgas into a modern healthcare center in the field of pediatric oncology.
According to the scientific experts, who sought the institutional support of the regional governor, it concerns the gentle treatment of children with oncological diseases with modern equipment, which would lead to significant therapeutic success.
“As a regional governor, I fully support this significant idea of providing a proton accelerator within the framework of a specialized proton center for the planned specialized children’s hospital in the city of Burgas. Protecting children’s health comes first and we must give them a chance to grow up healthy and calm“, says the letter to the Minister of Health.
The purchase of such a device and the construction of a proton center would lead to the development of the Burgas region in the field of health care, both locally and nationally.
According to Prof. Neikova, it is unacceptable for an EU member state to have a large number of professional doctors and not have the necessary equipment for treatment, which in turn forces cancer patients to be treated abroad.
“As a regional governor and representative of the state, I will work for this concept to be included in the National Plan to fight cancer, in the Recovery and Development Plan, as well as in finding investments and financingProf. Maria Neikova is emphatic.
