Lidl and Kaufland join forces to clean the Danube to … Ruse

Lidl and Kaufland, part of the largest retail group in Europe – Schwarz, join forces in a joint international initiative to clean up the Danube River. The campaign is entitled “Together for cleaner rivers: River CleanUp Collective @Danube” and is part of the group’s long-term strategy for plastic REset Plastic.

Divisions of the two commercial chains from 10 different countries, through which the Danube passes, are conducting various campaigns to clean the river. Bulgaria will also join, and on September 3, employees of Lidl and Kaufland will jointly clean the coast in the vicinity of the city of Ruse – near the town of Marten and the village of Sandrovo. Partners of the initiative are Tourist Association “Prista”, Ruse Travel Club “Byala Zvezda” and ECOPACK Bulgaria.

Data show that the Danube River is one of the most plastic-polluted rivers in Europe. Every year, about 1,000 tons of plastic waste flows from it into the Black Sea. The main goal of the cleanup initiative is to both reduce the amount of plastic and draw the attention of the general public to this extremely important problem.

From KVORUM, we hope that the local stores from the chains will also join forces in cleaning the Silistren section of the Danube, which clearly needs it.
