Conclusion: The prosecutor’s office ruled for Plamen Mollov

The former head of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), Prof. Plamen Mollov, has been unfairly accused of offering a bribe to his successor at the BFSA, Hristo Daskalov. This is clear from a decree of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.

Daskalov had notified the “competent authorities” that Mollov had interceded before him as an intermediary of the private company managing the laboratory for phytosanitary control at the “Captain Andreevo” checkpoint. However, the investigation of the state prosecution has shown that the statements made are false.

In a letter to the media, Prof. Mollov expressed his opinion regarding the announced decision of the prosecutor’s office. Here is what the professor wrote:

“It is dangerous to be right when the rulers are wrong.” I find these words of Voltaire very appropriate as a response to the manipulations and suggestions spread about me. I am disgusted by what happened, and it is logical to question why I was chosen as the target of an impure attack.

“Isn’t the answer in the fact that I am involved in the realization in Bulgaria of one of the major international educational projects?” Or because I speak freely and critically on professional topics even when my opinion differs from the populist wave of the day?

In essence, I am pleased to inform you about the decree of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office, with which the competent authority terminated the pre-trial proceedings due to lack of evidence.

The “Captain Andreevo” case was used as an alibi for political survival, but it turned into a management fiasco. With the appointment of the caretaker government, this propaganda topic suddenly fell off the media agenda. Undoubtedly, if a problem exists objectively, it cannot disappear in a day by replacing one minister with another. Apparently attempts to achieve democratic goals by Bolshevik methods failed.

At the start of the election campaign, I appeal to its participants not to speculate on people’s fears by suggesting that Bulgarian and European citizens have been poisoned with the food they consume. This is false and irresponsible!

On a personal level, I would like to thank my relatives, friends and colleagues for their support. These gestures were especially valuable to me.”
