Over 80 percent of the schools, kindergartens and social facilities in Stara Zagora are heated with gas.

Before the directors is the question of providing heating in winter.

In the outer districts of the city, there are a few schools that are not gasified and run on liquid fuel, which is, however, no less of a problem.

In many of the sites, cooking is done on site and the appliances run on gas.

“We will manage financially, if and only on the condition that the current gas prices are maintained and do not become more expensive”, Teodora Nikolova, principal of Romain Rolland High School, is optimistic.

“We have no alternative. Our building is big. We can’t heat with electricity or solid fuel. This is the only option. I really hope we have gas supplies throughout the heating season and the current school year.”

The principal of “Ivan Vazov” secondary school, Dinko Tsviatkov, also expresses his concerns.

“No one knows what the winter will be like, what the price will be, which is already more than 80% higher, which will further strain the school’s budget. If there is gas, everything will be normal.”

The school does not have the opportunity now and for this school year to make a large-scale investment to replace the heating source with air conditioners.

“If we install stoves of the convector type, we will not be able to afford to pay for electricity, which is significantly more expensive than gas heating.”

Tsvyatkov is adamant that if the price continues to rise at such rates, they will not be able to pay for their heating

Mariana Pencheva is the principal of “Maxim Gorki” secondary school in Stara Zagora. She also expresses concerns about the supply and price of gas.

“We have an alternative, but not for heating, but for conducting a relatively normal educational process – in an electronic environment.”
