With the blessing of Patriarch Neofit, a book was published about priests from the Sofia Diocese who suffered in 1944-1959.

With the blessing of His Holiness the Metropolitan of Sofia and Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte, the book “Priests from the Sofia Diocese who underwent suffering and martyrdom for Christ during the years 1944-1959” was published. This was announced by the Sofia Metropolis.

“During the years 1944-1959, more than 25 priests from the Sofia Diocese were subjected to suffering and torment by the atheistic authorities because of their faith in Christ and suffered a martyr’s end. Their suffering is comparable to the torment suffered by the martyrs in the first centuries. We, their descendants, we have a filial duty to preserve the memory of their feat (Hebrews 13:7)”, the metropolitan clarified.

And they inform that the present book contains brief biographies of these priests.

The Russian, Romanian and Greek local churches invariably honor the memory of their contemporary saints. Hundreds of ascetics, martyrs and confessors for the faith were canonized.

“Let us glorify the children of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, who remained firm until death in professing the faith because of the love of Christ, because of which the Lord Himself suffered suffering and death for us and our salvation,” says the Sofia Metropolis.

The publication is of the Holy Metropolis of Sofia, it was prepared with the assistance of the “Orthodox Fatherland” association.

The book can be bought from the host of the Holy Metropolis of Sofia – Kolyo Lozanov, from church shops and from the book exchange of “Gara Iskar” – at a price of BGN 9.80.

The book “Priests from the Sofia Diocese – confessors and bloodless martyrs for the faith of Christ during the years 1944-1959 – part one” is about to be published.
