From September 2 to 4, Pamporovo and the forests above Smolyan will host the ninth consecutive edition of one of the most interesting and anticipated events in the mountain biking calendar for the year – Elevation 999, the resort announced.
This year’s event will be the fourth round of the Bulgarian Enduro Series and will challenge some of the best native cyclists, as well as representatives from Greece, Turkey and Italy.
The competition is open to all interested cyclists, registration is still open at www.conceptcreative.org/e999
The enduro discipline is one of the most interesting in mountain biking and consists of descending in stages through rugged, technical, mountainous terrain. This year’s edition of Elevation 999 will include a total of 5 special stages with a total length of nearly 15 km, on which each competitor will be timed, and the winner will be the one with the best overall time of all sections.
The race will start around 10 a.m. on Sunday from Snezhanka peak with a descent to Studenets Square, from where the competitors will again climb to the top for the start of the second stage, which will finish at the Pamporovo Tourist Center. This is followed by another ascent to Snezhanka, from where the third stage will begin, which is the longest in the race and will direct the competitors in the direction from Pamporovo to Smolyan.
There will be two more competition sections in the forests above Smolyan, after which the competitors are expected to arrive around 16:30 on the stage at the Rhodope Drama Theater – Smolyan, where the official awarding ceremony for the winners will take place.
Elevation 999 is held with the support of Pamporovo AD, Municipality of Smolyan, Hotel Perelik, Red Bull Bulgaria, DoppelHerz and others.
Meanwhile, Velopark Pamporovo and the mountain bike trails above Smolyan are also enjoying increased interest from cyclists from near and far this year, and the park and lifts in Pamporovo will be working non-stop in September as well.
