The Turkish national basketball team registered its first victory in Group “A” of EuroBasket 2022. Ergin Ataman’s team managed to escape from the bite of Montenegro and take the success with the final 72:68 (14:18, 27:13, 12:20, 19:17) in the “Tbilisi Arena” hall.
Thus, the Turks find themselves in second position in the provisional ranking with an asset of 1-0, while Montenegro is third with 0-1. On Saturday at 5:15 p.m. the Turks face the Bulgarian team, while at 2:15 p.m. the Montenegrins face Belgium.
The Montenegrin team came very close to creating a sensation today, after having a five-point lead at 61:66 in the final minutes. However, Turkey was able to come back and make a comeback through the accurate shooting of one of its leaders – Furkan Korkmaz, who strung together five consecutive points to lead the symbolic hosts to victory with 72:68.
Shane Larkin finished with 18 points and 7 assists for Turkey. Chedi Osman added 15 points and Alperen Shengyun scored 12 points.
Bojan Dubljevic led Montenegro with 18 points and 6 rebounds, all in the second half. Marko Simonovic contributed 13 points and 7 rebounds.
