The chief methodologist of the youth national teams, Lachezar Dimov, met with representatives of children’s and youth schools from the Sofia region and introduced them to recommendations for the development of talents prepared by the Expert Commission of the Bulgarian Football Union. The event, which took place at the National Sports Academy, was also attended by the director of the “Championships and Tournaments” department, Valentin Chakarov, Petko Petkov, chairman of the Zonal Council of the BFS in Sofia, and Emil Atanasov, director of the Bulgarian Football Coaching School.

Lachezar Dimov emphasized the differences in approaches to training teenagers, stressing that it is much more important that the main goal of coaches is the development of their graduates, and not victory at any cost.

“For me, it is fundamental to create an environment in which children have the freedom to experiment and take risks. Attempts at creativity should be supported and encouraged, and children should not be bombarded with constant instructions,” Dimov was emphatic.

The meeting also discussed potential changes to the rules for Football 5 and 7, among which are unlimited substitutions, execution of lateral kicks, disallowance of goals in direct execution of a cross, elimination of the offside rule, etc.

The event concluded with the presentation of the Ten Golden Rules of Children’s Football and a newly created Parent Code of Ethics to create a more favorable environment for the development of homegrown talents. In turn, the clubs committed to distributing them to their members.
