The National Donor Fund “13 Centuries Bulgaria” begins the preparation of the fifth edition of the International Youth Art Festival “River of Tolerance”, which will be held next year. The project enables students and teachers from the art academies of the Balkan countries – young and creative people of different ethnicities and religions, to learn from each other and from the invited teachers, to create together and get to know each other. And the works created by them reach the general public through a specially created exhibition.
Traditionally, the art festival is under the patronage of UNESCO, not only because it reflects the ideas, goals and main priorities of the world organization, but also because the Fund is the only one in Bulgaria with the status (extended until 2027) of official relations with UNESCO.
The executive director of the NDF “13 centuries Bulgaria” Slava Ivanova and the direct organizer of the art festival Dr. Mila Stareyshinska-Angelova expressed the hope that the global pandemic situation will allow the next edition of the “River of Tolerance” to be held live at the Sarafska House in Samokov, not like the previous one – in Zoom. This did not prevent established and young authors from exchanging creative energy and constructive ideas, the results of which were shown in an exhibition and catalog.
The Saraf House is an immovable cultural property of national importance. It is managed by the NDF “13 Centuries Bulgaria” and is the only survivor of an entire revival quarter with incredible architecture and characteristic interior.
The Youth Art Festival “River of Tolerance” is permanently associated with the support, assistance and development of the diversity of artistic directions in the contemporary art of the Balkan countries. At the same time, the participants unite around the idea of tolerance and mutual understanding, for the preservation of the artistic heritage.
The Fund’s efforts in organizing the festival have been appreciated by the patron of the project. For the past edition, in a special video, Mr. Tusan Tiendrebeogo, Secretary of the Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions of UNESCO, welcomed the participants and gave an extremely high assessment of the activity of the “13 Centuries Bulgaria” NDF.
For the fifth edition of the “River of Tolerance” invitations will again be extended to all higher art schools from the Balkans, their students and teachers.
