The twelfth edition of the Street Arts Festival 6Fest will be held from September 27 to October 1, 2022 in Plovdiv as part of the city’s Cultural Calendar. Admission to all events is free. For the first time, 6Fest is part of the Plovdiv 2022 Autumn Art Salon.
The issue is thematically focused on music. In the role of street musicians, we will see popular names from the Bulgarian pop and jazz scene, and the festival locations will be emblematic places for Plovdiv – the main pedestrian street “Knyaz Alexander I”, Vienna Pavilion in Tsar Simeon’s Garden, Kapana, Danov Hill (Sahat Tepe) , Bunardjika.
The first concert of the festival is by Ivo Dimchev on September 27. Ivo Dimchev is a choreographer, dancer, director, singer. Even in the months of the COVID-19 pandemic, he did not stop creating and performing concerts in a different and alternative way, which is inherent in his entire work – online and at home.
On September 28, the musician Velislav (Vili) Stoyanov will present for the first time in Plovdiv his project “Just Bossa” – his initiative to breathe new life into the musical heritage of the great Bulgarian composer and his grandfather Yosif Tsankov.
On September 29, two women’s concerts await us – by Milenita and Mila Robert. Milenita is a pop and jazz singer, but she also has roles on the big TV and cinema screen. In 2004, Milenita wrote three of the songs for the debut film “Mila from Mars” by the director Zornica Sofia, which in the same year won an award at the international film festival in Sarajevo. In 2005, her debut album “Do it Again” was released. Mila Robert is an actress and singer, becoming popular with covers of famous songs. Mila’s songs are the soundtrack of various films of young directors. In December 2020, her debut album “Egotrip” was released.
The evening of September 30 is dedicated to the bands – we will listen to “Ostava” and “Taraleshta”. “Ostava” is one of the most popular Bulgarian rock (brit-pop) groups, with a 30-year history. It was created as a student group by Georgi Dimitrov Georgiev – guitar and vocals, Boyan Petkov – bass guitar and Dragomir Georgiev Dimitrov – drums. In 1995, Svilen Noev, the current vocalist, joined the group. Dimitar (Mitko) Taralezhkov is a Bulgarian director and musician, bard. Graduated from “Film and TV Directing” at “New Bulgarian University”. He is part of the independent director group “Bidon Film”, together with Oleg Konstantinov and Nikola Boshnakov. But Taralezhkov is also a poet with a guitar. At first, he performed his songs alone, and now he is performing together with his group “Taraleshta”.
The most events at 6Fest will take place on October 1, World Music Day. “Collegium Ritornello” will perform a classical concert with forgotten and rarely performed authors and works from the Baroque era. “Collegium Ritornello” is a baroque ensemble of 15 performers – current and former graduates of NUMTI “Dobrin Petkov” – Plovdiv. It was founded in 2019.
In its program on October 1, 6Fest also includes several parades, a traditional part of the festival over the years. Musicians and cheerleaders from the “Dimitar Mechev” representative youth brass band with cheerleading squad – Velingrad, part of the “Father Paisiy – 1893” National Community Center will take part in a parade along the Main Pedestrian Street of Plovdiv.
The Plovdiv circus artist and musician Dario Tabakov, with the stage name Dario Bulgario, will perform a concert on stilts. Three musicians from the Maritza Brass Band will perform surprising jazz flash mobs. Maritsa Brass Band was founded in 2015 by saxophonist Venelin Georgiev. Their participation in the opening of the European Capital of Culture in 2019 in the Italian city of Matera is memorable.
The upcoming edition of the Street Arts Festival 6Fest is being held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the National Culture Fund.
