Bulgaria’s second rocket Dimitar Kuzmanov gave an interview after it was revealed that he will take part in the main draw of the ATP 250 series tennis tournament Sofia Openwhich will take place from September 26 to October 2 in the “Arena Armeets” hall in Sofia.
“I am extremely happy that I will participate in the Sofia Open 2022 – a tournament like for the ATP 500 category. I hope there will be many people, the hall will be full, because in the past years there were problems due to the pandemic, but now I expect to return to shared emotions with our amazing audience. Last year I recorded my first main draw victory – very prestigious and after a great match, but people didn’t have the opportunity to experience it with me in the hall, as I wanted to. I’m sure I would to experience it in a different way. I hope now to fully feel all this emotion – a victory in front of the hot Bulgarian audience in the hall. Moreover, the tournament is probably one of the strongest. This is a prerequisite for the fans to fill the hall and it will be a wonderful tournament. People are thirsty for sports. Wherever I play now, the courts are full. I believe that great experiences await us with the Bulgarian audience, who are thirsty for positive emotions,” said Kuzmanov.
Last season, the Plovdiv resident also recorded his first success in the main scheme of the competition, after removing Lorenzo Musetti (Italy) with 6:7(4), 7:6(3), 6:3.
“My win last year was over one of the most talented young players who is already in the Top 30 in the world but has the potential to be in the Top 10 and stay there for a long time. It was a big win for me. It reflected the whole year of Sofia Open 2021 so far – on my game, on my self-esteem, on my confidence. That’s why it’s good that Sofia Open has it, so that it can give us, the Bulgarian tennis players, the opportunity to achieve victories at such a level and against such opponents that to we may be working our way up.
Sofia Open is one of the most important events for me. I am a part of it in each of the seven editions, for which I am grateful to the Bulgarian Tennis Federation, the organizers of the tournament, the sponsors, everyone who makes it happen, at the highest level”.
“Declared participants cannot be seen at this level of a tournament. It’s like it’s not ATP 250, but ATP 500. That Grigor is on the list is big enough good news for everyone in Bulgaria. I’ve always said that when he plays, this is good not only for tennis and for the future of tennis in our country, it is good for the children, for Bulgarian sport in general, for the fans. I urge people to come and enjoy this wonderful tournament. To realize what a treasure for Bulgaria it is to it is there. The Sofia Open is not just an asset for tennis, but an asset for the sport and for the future of Bulgarian children,” he said.
“The list of participants is unique. Everyone is in very good shape. All the tennis players from the elite of world tennis who have applied are in very good shape. And not only the names that stand out at first reading. I also think of the British Jack Draper, who I trained with in New York. He beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-0 at the US Open. People will be able to watch both the latest and greatest tennis stars and established names on the tour like Stan Wawrinka, Grigor, Monfils … It will be a great experience. It is rare to see such strong players at this category of tournament. Such names at the ATP 250 tournament rarely come together. Well, now we have the pleasure of coming together precisely in Sofia,” Kuzmanov said.
“Everyone who has come likes Sofia very much. Those who haven’t yet have heard nothing but wonderful reviews and want to come. The fact that tennis players who have played over the years are coming back shows that they feel good here. The Sofia Open is very well received in the tennis circles. This is very pleasing and shows that all the people involved in the organization of the event are doing a great job. For this reason, the Sofia Open is a wonderful advertisement for Bulgarian tennis, for the whole of Bulgaria sport and for Bulgaria”, pointed out the record holder for victories for the Bulgarian national team for the Davis Cup.
“The year is developing very well for me and my team. The most important thing is that I avoid injuries and be consistent. What happened until now was in our plans. Now it is very important my participation in the Sofia Open, consolidating the good result of last year and even an upgrade. Although the tournament is extremely strong, this year I gained a lot of experience in big tournaments against good players. And I feel confident. One of the main goals we have set for the end of the year – to enter the Top 150, at the moment it is very achievable. And in our team, when we set a goal, we like to even exceed it. I hope that in the remaining quarter until the end of the year, we will continue in the same way,” concluded Kuzmanov.
