The production of raw milk in our country decreased by 10% during the summer months. It is expected that in the autumn, due to the difficult economic situation, farmers will begin mass slaughtering the animals that they cannot feed, the National Union of Cattle Breeders in Bulgaria has warned, BNR reported.
“More than 10% is the drop in raw milk produced and sold for June and July. The hard information will come out for August and September. Most breeders, after the mandatory detention is over – that is, the date for which they are obliged after they are declared the animals, in order to be able to receive the support, will have taken the animals for mass destruction after September 2, because they cannot work at a loss,” explained the chairman of the Union of Cattle Breeders, Dimitar Zorov.
He warned that there is a real risk that our country will soon run out of Bulgarian milk, cheese, and also meat.
“The state calculated that one liter of milk is between BGN 1.35 and BGN 1.51 and didn’t lift a finger. And if Bulgaria is left without dairy products, without its own local production, what will happen? Who will bear this responsibility” , asks Zorov.
