Complete program for the celebration of the 137th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria and Holiday of the city of Plovdiv September 6, 2022

12:30 p.m. – Saedinenie hall of the Regional History Museum

The chairman of the Municipal Council, Eng. Alexander Durzhikov, and the mayor of the city, Zdravko Dimitrov, will present the award “Honorary Citizen of the City of Plovdiv” to Evgeniy Todorov and relatives of Neri Terzieva, who was awarded posthumously.

Municipal Council – Plovdiv awarded the two with the highest honorary award of the city of Plovdiv with its decision No. 282 of 07.07.2022, voted unanimously. Evgeniy Todorov was awarded the title because of his significant contribution to objective, honest and critical journalism, as well as his authorship of journalistic books and film scripts, which contributed to the national and international prestige of Plovdiv. The title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Plovdiv” was awarded posthumously to Neri Terzieva in connection with her significant contribution to modern journalism, exceptional professionalism and support for freedom of speech.

Reconstruction of the events of September 6, 1885 by the “Patriot” committee

On this day, thanks to the courage of Chetniks from Golyamo Konare, as the city of Saedinenie was then called, a historical injustice was corrected. About 300 people went to Plovdiv and arrested the Governor General Gavril Krastevich. The heroic events will be recreated on the “Central” square in front of the Military Club in Plovdiv in a reenactment of the events of September 6, 1885. The “Patriot” Committee will recreate the moment when the Unification becomes a fact, after a series of riots and the meeting of the Chardaphon’s Great Branch detachment with the people of the Governor-General Gavril Krastevich. By tradition, the proclamation of the Union will also be read.

7:30 p.m. – Stefan Stambolov Square, in front of Plovdiv Municipality

Concert-performance “Jazz & Traditions Vol.2” with the participation of Nina Nikolina, Kalin Velov, Martin Tashev, Miroslav Turiyski, Tanya Parvanova

The repertoire includes new songs from the singer’s new concert album and the most popular songs, presented in a modern mix of ethno and jazz, as well as previously unreleased Bulgarian folk songs, which are viewed differently from the traditional way, gathering folklore, ethnojazz, flamenco and vocal and instrumental improvisations. The concert takes place with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Ministry of Culture.

7:45 p.m. – Regional History Museum, Saedinenie Hall

Ceremonial dawn-check on the occasion of the 137th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria and the Feast of the City of Plovdiv. The military ceremony was attended by a brass band, representative companies, torch bearers, wreath bearers under the command of the commander of the Joint Special Operations Command and head of the Plovdiv garrison, Major General Yavor Mateev.

Official speeches will be delivered by the Mayor of Plovdiv Zdravko Dimitrov and the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev. The actors from the Plovdiv Drama Theater – Petar Toskov and Maria Gencheva – are leading.

We remind you that on the morning of September 6, the 46th “Union” International Memorial Marathon takes place. The start is traditionally in the city of Saedinenie, the final and the award ceremony in Plovdiv. The movement of road vehicles along the route of the marathon on the territory of Plovdiv will be stopped in stages or entirely on September 6.

On Unification Day, Plovdiv residents and guests of the city will be able to park in the “Blue Zone” for free.

During the holiday week, the events of the Plovdiv 2022 Autumn Art Salon continue:

The legendary Wiener Symphoniker (the official orchestra of the city of Vienna) arrives for the first time in Bulgaria to perform two concerts on the stage of the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv on September 9 and 10 (Friday and Saturday). It starts at 20:00. The visit of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is organized by the Trakia Association and is carried out with the financial support of the Plovdiv Municipality as part of the city’s Cultural Calendar for 2022. The Austrian Embassy is a partner of the event.

Crossroads scene returns with an exciting edition that will offer the best performances from the national theater scene. The festival will be opened on September 10 at 7 pm in the great hall of the Drama Theater with the premiere of “Vampire”. The program continues until September 21.
