Despite the violent political passions that we have witnessed in recent months, the relations between our brother countries rest on a solid foundation that is beyond any political conjuncture. This was stated by President Rumen Radev during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia on “Dondukov” 2, reported a reporter of Focus Agency.
“This is the foundation that underlies Bulgaria’s decision to unreservedly support North Macedonia since the recognition of the country’s statehood and independence, through the insistence on the preventive contingent of the United Nations in the event of the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia, through the provision of assistance during the embargo, through the provision of military-technical assistance during the civil conflict, during catastrophes and natural disasters,” the head of state recalled.
Rumen Radev emphasized that this foundation must be strengthened in the future.
“Both I and all of you are convinced that for the sake of the people on both sides of the border, for the sake of future generations, for the sake of our common European future, we are obliged to strengthen this foundation. The political arrangements that are related to the start of negotiations for accession to the European Union are part of this process and are an important step forward,” he said.
“I want to assure you that Bulgaria will be in solidarity with fraternal Macedonia. I hope that the meeting with the Bulgarian government today is an important step towards reaching mutually beneficial solutions,” said Radev.
The President congratulated Dimitar Kovachevski for the initiative to visit Bulgaria.
“You know my appeal that there should be much more frequent meetings and dialogue at a high and highest political level to strengthen trust, mutual understanding and develop our good-neighborly relations,” concluded Radev.
