Today we celebrate 137 years since the Unification of Bulgaria.

September 6 remains in history as the day when the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia were united. An act that gave our country the right to return to its borders lands that historically belonged to it. On this day in 1885, in Plovdiv, after a military coup, a provisional government was established, which announced the accession of Eastern Rumelia to the Principality of Bulgaria. The union received diplomatic and international recognition in 1886.

The day was declared an official holiday of the country by a decision of the National Assembly of February 18, 1998.

Traditionally, the anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia will be celebrated with a series of events throughout the country. The center of the celebrations is Plovdiv.

On the occasion of September 6, the Municipality of Stara Zagora and the Second Tundzhan Mechanized Brigade are organizing a city-wide ritual to pay homage to the work and feat of the participants in the Unification by laying wreaths and flowers from 10:30 a.m. in front of the “Defenders of Stara Zagora” monument in the “Fifth of October” park.

From 11:00 a.m., a festive concert of the Municipal Folk Ensemble “Zagore” begins on the square in front of the Municipal Administration.

On September 6, the villages of Pryaporets and Malko Kadievo in Stara Zagora also celebrate their holiday. In Pryaporets, the holiday program is announced for 1:30 p.m., and in Malko Kadievo, it starts at 5:30 p.m.
