Turkey’s national basketball team registered its third win in Group A of EuroBasket 2022 and thus moved closer to earning a ticket to the elimination phase in Berlin. Ergin Ataman’s team beat Belgium 78:63 (20:6, 17:24, 22:17, 19:16) in a match that took place in the Tbilisi Arena.
Thus, our southern neighbors did a favor to the Bulgarian team, because if Belgium were successful, the “red devils” would qualify for the eliminations right now and close one of the paths of the Bulgarian team. Turkey tops the group with a 3-1 record, while Belgium is in second place with a 2-2 record.
Later today, the matches Montenegro – Spain and Georgia – Bulgaria will take place. Tomorrow, Rosen Barchovski’s boys face Belgium in a match that could be decisive for the final classification in the group if our national team defeats the Georgians tonight.
The Turkish team played a brilliant first quarter, allowing just six points while scoring 20 to take a 20-6 lead. In the second half of the second period, the distance between the two teams fell as the Belgians increased the intensity and took advantage of some lapses by their opponent to close to within seven points of their opponent at 37:30. Ataman’s boys did not allow another loss of concentration in the second half, increased their lead to over 20 points and deservedly triumphed with the victory.
Alperen Shengyun was everywhere for Turkey’s victory, with the Houston Rockets player finishing with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Furkan Korkmaz scored another 16 points plus 5 rebounds, and Ercan Osmani scored 12 points.
Haris Bratanovic finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds for Team Belgium. Hans Vanwin scored another 11 points for Dario Gergya’s team.
