The one hundred and thirty-seventh anniversary of the Unification was solemnly celebrated in Yambol today, September 6.

The festive program began at 10:15 a.m. in front of the Yambol Municipality building with marches and patriotic tunes performed by the brass band at the “Saglasie-1862” People’s Community Center with conductor maestro Vasil Sheitanov.

At 10:30 a.m., the ceremony of raising the national flag began with the participation of representative military units of the Air Force and Ground Forces in the Yambol garrison.

The mayor of Yambol Municipality, Valentin Revanski, greeted the attendees: “137 years ago today, Bulgarians united their efforts in defending their national interests. Our ancestors had a common goal – the unification of the Bulgarian ethnic land into one state.

United against the will of the Great Powers behind this great cause, statesmen and people stand irreconcilably together. I am proud that Yambol is also part of this work, in which the Bulgarians had the power to write their own history. Today, more than ever, we need to look to her and to our roots. Let’s remember that Bulgaria is strong when it is united! To know that for the realization of the important and great causes unity is needed.

His Eminence Archimandrite Dimitrii, episcopal vicar of the Yambol Spiritual District, gave a prayer of thanksgiving for the work of the Union.

The celebration continued with a procession that headed to the Monument to the Heroes who gave their lives for our national liberation. Wreaths and flowers were presented there as a sign of appreciation to the patriots who brought about the unification of Northern and Southern Bulgaria.

From today until September 22, anyone interested in the glorious Bulgarian past has the opportunity to view the guest exhibition of the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv in the “Bezisten” Cultural and Information Center, dedicated to the Unification.

On the occasion of the festive September 6, an Open Day has been announced at the Battle Glory Museum and at the “Bezisten” Cultural and Information Center – from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
