137 years since the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia were celebrated in Veliko Tarnovo.
The Bulgarian national flag was raised in front of the Municipality building with a military ritual. The students of Vasil Drumev Secondary School Sofia Rasheva and Darin Vladimirov told about the heroes of the past with the literary composition “Bulgaria, they died for you!”.
The deputy mayor Prof. Dr. Georgi Kamarashev delivered a festive speech. He recalled the role of the notable citizens of Tarnovo, who created the first “Unity” committee in the old capital city after the Liberation.
In addition to George Momchev, Georgi and Nikola Zhivkovi, Stefan Stambolov, Lyuben Karavelov, Archimandrite Stefan, Tsani Ginchev, Dr. Stat Antonov, Prof. Kamarashev also recalled the role of Sava Mutkurov, who convinced Prince Battenberg to support the landmark national act that led to the unity of the Bulgarians on both sides of Stara planina.
“Today, 137 years later, we need causes, unification around values ​​and unification of people on both sides of Osogovo under the flag of the European Union,” Prof. Kamarashev concluded his speech.
In front of the “Mother Bulgaria” monument, Father Slavcho gave a blessing, and with a military ritual wreaths and flowers were presented as a sign of appreciation. The honor guard of the “Vasil Levski” National Military University passed in a solemn march. And at exactly 12:00 p.m. on the 6th of September, the bells of Tsarevets and all the churches rang the old capital city.
The festive program will end with the screening of the audio-visual show “Tsarevgrad Tarnov – sound and light”, which will be broadcast at 9:00 p.m. and will be viewable from Tsar Asen I Square.
