Young mallard ducklings were released on today’s holiday into the waters of Lake “Zagorka” in Stara Zagora.

All fourteen birds were hatched and raised in the Wildlife Rescue Center of the “Green Balkans” Association. They are a generation of birds that were confiscated because they were used as live bait in illegal hunting.

The release of the ducklings turned into a real celebration for everyone who came especially for the action. The new inhabitants of the lake were released into the wild by the hands of little Old Zagorians.

“We release the rest of the mallards bred by us with different hunting groups in the area in different places and different reservoirs. This is one of our ways of showing that we want to work together. Let’s show them and the society that conservationists and hunters can be together for the sake of protecting the Bulgarian nature”, Hristina Klisurova, the veterinarian in the “Green Balkans” Association, told BTA.

As soon as they were released, the ducklings gathered in a group, which helps them feel safe while they get used to their new habitat.
