“It’s September again – September 10, and today we have gathered to open “Scene at the Crossroads”. And this year we will please the most demanding and faithful audience – Plovdiv, with a lot of theater. We are glad that you are here”. With these words, the director of the Plovdiv Drama Theater Krastyu Krastev raised the curtain on the 26th edition of one of the largest forums under the hills.

Program director Rositsa Obreshkova recalled that “Scene” has been opening the theater temple for 26 years and bringing joy to people.

“Our festival also has its own guardian angel. Stefan Danailov – the creator of “Scene at the Crossroads” will watch over us,” she said and shared that a few days ago she was shown thoughts and memories about Lambo collected by her mother, Rositsa Danailova.

“This reminded me that without memory a person is nothing, without memories, experiences. Our festival is memory,” she said.

The main sponsor of the festival, Eng. Dimitar Georgiev, also recalled the role of Stefan Danailov, who has been gathering the theater audience in the hall of the theater for 26 years:

“This year, the motto of the festival is “Theatre of Wisdom”. How wise he was when he came to Plovdiv 26 years ago with the idea of ”Scene at the Crossroads”. The then mayor Spas Gurnevski said “yes”. And Plovdiv then was dark, hungry and cold. Then Stefan Danailov received the support of a group of friends. Together we paved a path, and now it has grown into a highway.”

Eng. Georgiev said that he had been sheltering his colleague from Ukraine for a month – the Bulgarian honorary consul there. And he told him that Bulgaria is wonderful and we must protect it.

“Let’s protect it from incompetent and corrupt officials, because of which misfortunes like this happen in the vicinity of Plovdiv. Let’s protect it so that there are such nice events as “Scene at the Crossroads”, Dimitar Georgiev also said.

Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archeology and Tourism Plamen Panov expressed his excitement at opening the festival for the first time.

“The theater is a temple that has an extremely important role in the times of division in which we live. The theater brings us together, and as Dario Fo said: “The theater is a cathedral from which a lot can be said about the world of goodness,” said Panov.

At the final, Rositsa Obreshkova, Krastyu Krastev, engineer Dimitar Georgiev and Plamen Panov uttered together the emblematic phrase: “Long live the festival!”.

Then the stage was conquered by the actors of the Plovdiv Drama Theater, who premiered the play “Vampire” by Anton Strashimirov.

After the end, the audience applauded them wildly, and the director Plamen Markov, set designer and costume designer Mira Kalanova and composer Petya Dimanova joined the troupe.

The finale of the first festival night included an unexpected ceremony for the heroes participating in it. The team of “Scene at the Crossroads” awarded the actors Ivana Papazova and Simeon Alexiev with the prize of the festival for their contribution and long-term participation.

The 26th edition of “Scene at the Crossroads” is under the motto “Theatre of Wisdom” and is realized with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv, the Ministry of Culture and the sponsor family – the main sponsor “Rosa Impex” and the sponsors “KCM 2000 Group”, MAI Group Holding , Ataro Klima and Ondulin. It is hosted by the Plovdiv Drama Theater.
