The government decided today that the future highway from Ruse to Veliko Tarnovo should be declared a national object. This will facilitate the procedures for approving the detailed development plan (DSP) of the route, will lead to faster procedures for expropriation and will increase the opportunities for investments, commented the acting minister of regional development and public works Ivan Shishkov to journalists.

He added that the PUP and conceptual design for the highway from Ruse to Byala and the bypass of Byala are already ready. These are two of the three sections of the future autobahn. In the next week, a National Expert Council on Territorial Planning will be convened to review and approve the PUP. Once this is done, the expropriation procedure and the construction of the route can begin.

“This motorway is part of the most important north-south transport corridor, of importance not only for Bulgaria, but for the whole of Europe. Our ambition is such that we will not stop there with planning. We will commission the design of the entire transport corridor as quickly as possible to Makaza border crossing,” Minister Shishkov also stated, quoted by BTV.

For a national site, with today’s decision of the Council of Ministers, an amendment to the General Development Plan of Sofia for the expansion of the third metro diameter has also been approved.
