In Gabrovo, the monument to the founder of the first new Bulgarian school, Vasil Aprilov, was covered with color. The correspondent of BNR in Gabrovo, Velina Mahlebashieva, was at the solemn opening of the school year at the Aprilov High School.
The year counting of the April School began 187 years ago. In the courtyard of the high school, which is his successor, today the school bell gathered 649 students with their teachers and parents, many of them also Aprilians:
– I graduated from the National April High School. Then I became a Greek teacher, and now I am the mother of an April boy. I feel everything here as my own.
Yesterday’s students from last year’s high school graduation were also present at the school’s celebration, who came to welcome the newly admitted eighth graders:
– We will tell them what we have been through for the past five years.
The youngest high school students recited the April Fool’s Oath in chorus – a traditional moment of the school’s ritual at the entrance of the new graduating class. With it they undertake to be diligent in the sciences, to shun ignorance and spiritual laziness:
“To have love for the Fatherland as a sacred duty, to help it according to my strength. I swore!”
On the day of the celebration, in addition to flower bouquets for the teachers, there were also funds in the donation box intended for the people of the flooded villages in Karlovsko.
