The Spanish Embassy will strengthen its cultural presence in Lovech. This became clear from the meeting of the ambassador of Spain H.E. Alejandro Polanco with the mayor of Lovech Kornelia Marinova, held on September 15, 2022 in the mayor’s office.
Guest appearances at exhibitions, book presentations, concerts are planned. Also for events related to writing, with the political ties between the two countries. Ambassador Polanko presented Lovech with four books, including “Bulgarians and Spaniards” and “The image of Don Quixote through the ages”.
Mayor Kornelia Marinova presented the guest with a crystal with the city’s coat of arms and advertising materials. She delighted her guest by pointing out that one of the new productions in the repertoire of the Drama Theater in Lovech is “Don Quixote”.
The conversation also touched upon future contacts in the sphere of economy, education, exchange of experience. It became clear that recently there is an increased interest of young people in learning Spanish. The new Spanish class at the Language School is proof of that. Therefore, together with the ambassador in Lovech was Angel Santamaria, adviser on educational issues. Deputy mayors Daniel Kolev and Ventsislav Hristov also took part in the conversation.
Ambassador Polanko visited the city because of the Profiled Language High School “Exarch Joseph I”, which is part of a bilateral agreement between Bulgaria and Spain for bilingual classes. The high school now has a Spanish teacher.
The agreement is 20 years old and is a working tool that allows the study of Spanish in educational institutions in our country. Already 18 high schools in the country are included and they have a high prestige because of the results. In addition, the mechanism enables the acquisition of a DELE certificate, the Spanish ambassador said.
After the meeting in the municipality, the guest visited the Covered Bridge and the “Prof. Teofan Sokerov” Art Gallery, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Vencislav Hristov. Earlier in the day, Ambassador Polanco participated in the Exarch Joseph I High School’s first day of school celebration.
