The Court of Appeal in Plovdiv has permanently remanded the police officer Angel Georgiev, who is accused of the intentional murder of a man in the village of Milevo.

The case is from September 4, when there was a meeting in the village, and after it a company moved to the yard of the 41-year-old employee of the Ministry of the Interior. Among the guests was Ognyan Yordanov, who quarreled with three men. The policeman’s version is that Yordanov pulled out a knife against the men who attacked him and Georgiev tried to disperse them.

However, according to the indictment, Yordanov was kicked in the head and body, and was finally thrown into the stadium while he was still alive. There was no evidence that the uniformed officer sought medical help for the victim. The policeman even told the others: “Let’s take this garbage somewhere so that it doesn’t die in front of us!”, prosecutor Bozhidara Popova quoted the witness Gecho Iliev, who was questioned before a judge.

The appellate court decided that the testimony of the witnesses and the expert report on the victim contain enough data from which it can be reasonably assumed that Georgiev committed the murder, considering that he could commit another crime at liberty.

Today, a protest was held in front of the courthouse by relatives of the policeman, who are convinced that he did not commit the murder. His lawyer presented to the court a signature from 400 residents of the village in support of the policeman, as well as medical documents that he suffers from asthma and hypertension.

“The real criminals are at large, Angel is not at all for this bank,” said lawyer Evgeni Kostadinov, who pointed out before the first instance that the murdered man was attacked by three people from the village of Karadjovo – Ivan Petrov, Alexander Alexov and Dimitar Panayotov. After that, however, they agreed to shift the blame to the policeman.
