Former finance minister Asen Vasilev (“We continue the change”) and the deputy chairman of “There is such a people” Toshko Yordanov, who are currently candidates for people’s representatives, by mutual consent requested the suspension of a defamation case, reported “De facto”. . The civil case was brought by Vassilev against Yordanov because of his claims from the parliamentary rostrum that in 2013 Vassilev stole intellectual property, for which he was convicted in London.
Asen Vassilev rejected the allegations and announced that he had filed a lawsuit in the Sofia City Court. The court session in the case, which was set for September 20, was not held after the lawyers of both submitted applications with the same meaning.
In his claim, the former finance minister claimed that Yordanov had caused him serious non-pecuniary damage with defamatory statements made from the rostrum of the National Assembly on July 29, 2021, and then repeated in two television appearances.
Vassilev’s claim was partial for BGN 25,100 out of BGN 250,000, the publication recalls. If the court awards the amount of the partial claim, he can file a new case for the full amount up to BGN 250,000. If Vassilev and Yordanov do not request renewal of the defamation case within half a year, it will be definitively terminated.
