A 65-year-old Englishman, detained in Burgas on a European arrest warrant for fraud committed by an organized criminal group and money laundering in particularly large amounts in France, has disappeared after being released against… a signature. This information is transmitted by Darik – Burgas, referring to magistrates.

This development of events was reached after a decision of the District Court in the city. The court considered that there was no danger of the foreigner absconding and imposed the lightest measure of remand on him.

John Moore, a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, arrived in our country at two o’clock after midnight on September 24 of this year. Landed at Burgas Airport from Gatwick, London. However, during the check, already at the airport, the Bulgarian border authorities found that the man was wanted from France.

“On the line of international legal cooperation, a European Arrest Warrant has been received for the handover of a citizen to Great Britain to serve a sentence of two years of imprisonment imposed by the court in Rennes under an effective regime,” announced the Deputy Chairman of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Burgas Jovita Grigorova.

It is a question of crimes of particularly large proportions, committed in the period 2005-2006. The sentence against Moore was handed down on June 26, 2019, but in his absence, as the Briton managed to hide from the authorities in France.

Surprisingly, three years later the Briton ended up in Burgas. He came with his wife to rest in a luxury hotel in Vlas. But he was detained. The District Prosecutor’s Office ordered him to be detained for 72 hours and, in order to ensure his presence in the extradition proceedings, insisted that he be placed on permanent remand “in custody. But the court rejected the request. The state prosecution filed a protest, again with a request for arrest, but it turned out that the Briton had fled during that time. And he could not be found, although, according to the court decision, he was banned from leaving the borders of our country. He has been declared wanted, the magistracy specified.
