400 people who had permanent jobs remain on the street, and this is also the largest bed base in the municipality, the mayor said

The closure of the Sunset Resort complex, known in the city as the “Dutch Village”, is a huge blow to business in Pomorie. Mayor Ivan Alexiev told Flagman.bg.

As we reported earlier today, the largest tourist base in the municipality closed for an indefinite period from time to time due to disputes between management and apartment owners.

Sunset Resort hit the switch a few weeks ago, laying off over 400 staff and it is not at all clear if and when it will open.

The largest complex in Pomorie “Sunset Resort” closed for a long time

The complex has 2,800 beds, which are usually occupied from May to October. Many of our fellow citizens worked. Everything is closed now! As far as I understand they won’t open next summer, they may not work for 3-4 years. It’s a pity, because they are the biggest and fairest tax payers (refer local taxes and fees, tourist tax, b.a.), because everything is “in the light” for them. We have no other similar object. Unfortunately, the water park will not work either, and it is an attraction for our guests. This is a big blow for Pomorie! That’s why I’m sounding this alarm. We cannot lightly leave a business that has invested a lot in Pomorie, provides a living for local residents with year-round work and is a decent payer. We can’t cross it out!”, added Ivan Alexiev.

The disputes are between the apartment owners – Irish citizens and the management. The Irish, among whom is the “green” MEP Claire Daly, refuse to pay for the common areas, as well as for the consumption of electricity and water. (SEE OUR TOPIC IN DEVELOPMENT)

They take advantage of a loophole in the Bulgarian legislation, which states that if you haven’t visited your property for 30 days, you don’t owe a fee. The problem is that they usually rent out their properties in the complex, their guests use all the extras, and in the end no one scares. The investor covered these costs for several years, but is on the verge of bankruptcy, which is why it closed.

A change in the legislation will certainly be needed to clearly regulate such cases, the mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Alexiev, is emphatic.
