He is the youngest concertmaster at the Royal Opera House in London
If there is a Bulgarian who is an employee of the queen, it is certainly Vasko Vassilev, who at the time became the youngest concertmaster of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House in London. He also knows the new king of Great Britain well.
“The patron of the opera is Prince Charles, I played 2-3 times for Queen Elizabeth. She wasn’t much into music, she liked the horse races more. She put a TV in the box to watch them. When I met her we needed money for the opera and she approached very well. I’ve played with Charles, we’ve had dinner together,” he said.
According to him, his wife Camila is also very fond of music. “Now the king will be much busier. I think he has waited a long time and must have learned how to be a good king. He is a very cool person, very knowledgeable. Maybe not as charismatic as his mother and his son , but it has good qualities”, Vassilev believes.
Vassilev is currently in Spain, preparing for new concerts. “Because of the gas crisis, we have to play by candlelight, but we will do it. Music preserves people,” he believes.
