Litex from the Second League threw out the leader in the elite of Bulgarian football Black Sea with 1:0 in the 1/16-final match for the Bulgarian Cup.

And it presented the biggest surprise in the autumn meetings of the tournament, in which until this moment the teams of the first level of our football did not allow another sensational relegation.

Viktor Vasilev scored the only goal in the 68th minute to send the “sailors” overboard, who are having a great season and lead the First League standings.

Their coach Ilian Iliev experienced great disappointment at the stadium in Lovech hours before he was officially announced as the national coach on Wednesday, with a presentation at the BFS base in Boyana. It was hardly the result he expected on the eve of his biggest day in the profession.

Litex reached the round of 16 and kept the tradition of being an uncomfortable opponent for everyone in the tournament. 6 seasons ago, this team again, as a second division representative, threw out the same Black Sea, then led by Georgi Ivanov, and then reached the quarterfinals.

The team from Lovech has won the Bulgarian Cup four times, the last time it did so 14 years ago. He played the final three more times.

In comparison, Black Sea has reached the trophy only once (2015). And now he will not be able to make a breakthrough in the tournament, but the consolation remains that in the championship the ambitions are high for Ilian Iliev’s team.

The results in the 1/16 finals played so far:
