“I can’t express my emotions. I’m just happy that I got through the match like that! Throughout the match I did a lot of good things, but in the second set Tsitsipas raised his game. Every game became very difficult. The first points in the tiebreak were excellent. I have to to take advantage of these chances. I continued to believe and be concentrated, maybe that was among the most important things. I’m not going to cry, but I’m very emotional. I’m just living the moment,” said the Bulgarian after the match.
Dimitrov managed a victory over Lorenzo Musetti in the first round, and then there was the tough obstacle of Daniil Medvedev. The Bulgarian prevailed again in what is considered to be one of the best tennis matches of the year. This was followed by an express victory in the round of 16 over Aleksandar Bublik, before prevailing over Hubert Hurkac with a 2:1 set. Dimitrov had just one win against Tsitsipas in seven matches played before today’s match.
