Ukraine attacked with 15 cruise missiles shipyard in the port city of Kerch, on the Crimean Peninsula, damaging one ship, the Russian Defense Ministry said, as quoted by Reuters.

The intelligence agency noted that the attack could further undermine Moscow’s capacity to strike.

In a terse statement, the ministry said 13 of the missiles were destroyed in mid-air and one hit a ship, but did not name the ship.

The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force said that the Russian Navy has deployed one of its most advanced missile ships there, armed with “Caliber” cruise missiles.

Moscow often attacked Ukraine with Caliber missiles during the 20-month-old war.

“I hope another ship followed the Moskva,” Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk said in Telegram, referring to the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet sunk by Ukrainian missiles on April 14, 2022.

Reuters was unable to verify the Russian and Ukrainian statements or social media posts, including video, of missile activity and of fire and smoke reported to be rising from the shipyard.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev’s increased ability to strike warships and reduce Russian surveillance capabilities they are in the Black Sea undermined Russia’s military efforts and helped Ukraine secure a sea route for grain exports.

The Russian-appointed head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said there were no casualties in the attack on the shipyard.

According to some Ukrainian analysis channels in “Telegram”, which follow the war, it was damaged in the attack the Russian missile carrier “Askold”. Reuters could not verify these reports.

In September, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Black Sea Fleet ship Askold was involved in the destruction of Ukrainian targets in the waters off Crimea.
