A 24-year-old driver from Sofia and his 20-year-old female companion from Berkovitsa were arrested last night on the Montana-Berkovitsa road after they crashed their car and then attacked police officers who came to the scene of the accident, the Regional Directorate of Ministry of Interior in Montana.

The accident happened at 10:30 p.m. at the turnoff for the village of Komarevo. Uniformed officers responded to a report of a car crash and upon arrival found a Ford Focus off the road and stuck in bushes next to the road. The driver and the passenger in the car behaved aggressively, with the man pulling out a gas pistol and threatening the Ministry of Internal Affairs officers with it, and the woman tore off the epaulet of one of them.

A breathalyzer test revealed that the driver was driving with a breath alcohol concentration of 1.97 per mille.

The two have been detained and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated against them.

The police directorate in Montana recalled that a few days ago a police officer from Varshets was injured while trying to stop a suicide attack in the “Iztok” district of the city and was hit by an angry man. During the year, there were several other cases of chainsaw breaking and law enforcement officers being hit in the region.
