“On suspicion of committing a crime under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (taking a bribe), the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Vladimirovich Ivanov has been detained,” said a statement published late Tuesday evening.
The spokesperson of the Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, explained that relevant investigative actions are being carried out in the case.
A law enforcement source revealed to Interfax that in the near future the investigation will be handed over to the court with a request for Ivanov’s arrest.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the detention of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in turn.
The maximum penalty under Russian law for taking a bribe is up to 15 years in prison and a fine equal to the amount of the bribe multiplied by 70.
