Two English Premier League footballers have been arrested after law enforcement raided the club’s stadium. The players, whose names are not mentioned, nor the team they compete for, have been accused of rape.
According to media on the Island, only one of the footballers was on the pitch during the police operation at the weekend. The uniformed officers had a conversation with him on suspicion of aiding and abetting the possible crime.
The 19-year-old spent the night in a cell and was later questioned. His teammate was also questioned and arrested the next day. He is also 19 years old.
The police announced that the two had been released on bail pending further investigation and order from the police.
The alleged rape is said to have taken place on Friday evening.
The alleged victim contacted police hours later and filed a formal complaint.
“The police have arrested two men following a complaint of rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting rape. Another 19-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of rape,” a police spokesman announced.
