No final decision has been made for an earlier first immunization of newborns
A whooping cough epidemic is expected to be declared by the end of the week. This was announced by the chief state health inspector, Associate Professor Angel Kunchev. He explained to NOVA that this does not mean a tightening of measures and masks, distance learning for all students or a filter in front of schools and hospitals will not be necessary, because the measures of the COVID-pandemic do not work to stop the spread of whooping cough.
Pharmacist: There are no pertussis vaccines in the warehouses or pharmacies
Currently, there are proven cases of infection in 17 districts. Against this background – a day after there was talk of an earlier first immunization of newborns, there is still no final decision. There are also no vaccines for pregnant women in pharmacies, the inspections show.
Prof. Kunchev commented for NOVA that for the moment there is no consideration for vaccines for pregnant women to be free. He does not recommend doing this without consulting a specialist.
“We don’t have any units in the warehouses. Until yesterday at noon there were known quantities. We always ask patients if they have a doctor’s recommendation for revaccination”, explained Yana Uzunova, a master pharmacist at a pharmacy in Veliko Tarnovo.
