Life imprisonment for a man who killed his girlfriend after burning her with a cigarette and cutting her ear – Bulgaria

The Varna Court of Appeal confirmed life sentence of a man for the brutal murder of the woman with whom he lived on a family basis.

Abil Adil committed the crime under a particularly painful way for the victim, with particular cruelty and under conditions of domestic violence. He has already received a life sentence from the court in Shumen, but has asked for it to be reduced in a higher instance.

Abil lived with a woman 14 years older than him Sylvia in the village of Chernoglavtsi. Often used alcohol in large quantities, after which he showed physical aggression towards the woman. She left the family home several times and sheltered with relativesbut then she went back to Abil because he promised that he would not beat her again.

During their 3-year cohabitation, he systematically beat her and took the money from her pension to buy alcohol.

One autumn day in the year 2022, Abil publicly dealt several blows to Sylvia, accusing her of cheating. The two returned to their home, where the aggression also escalated started beating her again. He hit her on the head and body with his fists and feet, with fireplace tongs, cut her ear, burned her body with a cigarette. At various intervals of time Abil entered the room where the 69-year-old victim was lying.

He noticed that her condition was deteriorating, he did not seek medical help. When you realized that Sylvia wasn’t going to survive, itlocked her house with a chain and padlock as a sign that there are no people inside and left the village. Five days later the lifeless the woman’s body was discovered by his minor son.

The woman’s autopsy found multiple multiple trauma injuries, including multiple broken ribs. Immediate cause of death was severe head injury.

The court accepts the conclusion that the defendant was fully aware of the consequences of the multiple blows to the victim’s vital organs, changed the means by which she caused pain and continued to abuse herperceived the deterioration of her condition, but nevertheless it is added new pains and sufferingsincluding on her naked body.

Now Abil has another chance to appeal the life sentence – this time to the Supreme Court.
