Protesting energy workers and miners blocked the center of Sofia (PHOTOS/VIDEO) – Bulgaria

Energy workers and miners from the country’s coal regions they protest under the windows of the government. Early this morning some of them left Radnevo to express their displeasure in the triangle of power once again.

The protest of the energy workers blocks the center of Sofia and closed “Knyaz Al. Dondukov” and “Tsar Osvoboditel” boulevards to traffic.

The demands of the protesters are the operation of coal plants to continue and after the liberalization of the electricity market. The union organizations KNSB and KT “Podkrepa”, workers in the complex “Maritsa Iztok”, TPP “Bobov Dol”, TPP “Brickel” and “Toplofikatsia-Pernik” also participate in the organization.

In the words of energy experts, because of the carbon emission quotas that the European Union imposesthe electricity produced by thermal power plants is too expensive, to be sold on the exchange, which will lead to the closure of the plants for economic reasons. And this will lead to the loss of thousands of jobs in the sector.

“We were on the verge of citizens paying higher and more expensive electricity. The electricity system in the country is about to collapse. Very few rotating powers are running. This will be one of the last peaceful protests,” said protester Nasko Mitev.
