New increase in the price of natural gas. At a closed session, the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation decided – the price becomes BGN 353.21 per megawatt hour and comes into effect from today. That is, the increase is nearly 19%. Another serious jump in the price of gas is pushing businesses to the wall. There was already a lack of funds to pay for the supplies.
“It will be especially difficult for the sectors that are big consumers of gas,” said Tsvetan Simeonov, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“It is becoming impossible to maintain production because there is also a danger of a liquidity crisis. Enterprises and consumers cannot generate this cash flow with which to pay for natural gas,” said Ivaylo Naydenov from BFIEK.
Businesses recall that a year ago the price was BGN 70 per megawatt hour.
“The last 3 months the prices are simply impossible. If we look compared to April, we have tripled, and if we look compared to last year at this time, we have a sixfold increase in the price, and this is uncontrollable”, Naydenov added.
The trade unions are also worried – that from January 1 there may be a new increase in the price of heating. That is why they insist that from now on we should think about compensating household consumers.
“From January 1, there will be a new increase in the price of heating, so additional funds must be provided for the autumn and winter months”, explained the president of KNSB Plamen Dimitrov.
Experts also expect that there will be a new price for heat, but not as high as for gas.
“There is no way to increase heating at the same rate, as this will actually lead to very serious social tension”, explained Dragomir Tsanev from the Center for Energy Efficiency.
And while unions want compensation for residential consumers, employers’ organizations continue to push for help.
“Obviously, we should follow the European Union in some kind of compensation for high gas prices, as is currently being done for high electricity prices,” Tsvetan Simeonov also said.
