Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov is conscious, understands everything and is ready to fight for his life. This is what Olympic silver medalist and choreographer Ilya Averbukh told TASS, BTA reports.
“We all support Roman. Indeed, his family is going through very difficult trials. All we can do is support him. I can say that Roma is absolutely conscious, he understands everything, he is ready to fight, he is ready to go forward,” Averbuch said.
“We will do everything to ensure that Roman not only lives a full life, but also returns to the ice. Of course we have to pray because there is a huge road ahead. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and we all strive to that,” added Averbuch.
On January 10, Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia. For two weeks he was put on a ventilator, as a result of which the blood was saturated with oxygen. In early February, he had the foot of one foot and several fingers amputated.
On February 20, it became known that the figure skater had a spasm of cerebral vessels, but doctors quickly dealt with the situation.
The 46-year-old Kostomarov won a gold medal together with Tatyana Navka in the pairs dance at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin 2002. The two are also two-time world and three-time European figure skating champions, as well as winners of the Grand Prix series final.
